Toyota has unveiled four custom versions of its newly reborn FJ Cruiser showcasing the mini SUV's potential as a canvas for personalisation. The concepts - dubbed The Legendary, The Street Cruiser, The Meridian and The Nature Explorer - aren't headed to showrooms. Toyota says they're intended to "inspire the custom car market," essentially providing a blueprint for aftermarket builders to follow.

Toyota FJ Cruiser The Legendary

The Legendary is the standout. It pays tribute to the 70 Series Land Cruiser with chrome steel wheels, vintage body accents, retro lettering on the front guards, and Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tyres with white sidewall lettering. Mud flaps carry a prominent Toyota wordmark at all four corners.

2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser The Street Cruiser

The Street Cruiser takes the opposite approach. Ride height is lowered, black Gazoo Racing-style wheels replace the stockers, and red Brembo brake calipers add some visual heat. A two-piece roof spoiler and a Rydekart electric fat bike on the rear rack - replacing the spare - make this one the most left-field of the four.

2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser The Meridian

The Meridian is the serious off-roader of the group. It rides on chunky Toyo Open Country R/T tyres, gains a snorkel for water crossings, and wears a roof rack loaded with gear and a jerry can. It's finished in black with trail-themed decals.

2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser The Nature Explorer

Rounding out the range is The Nature Explorer, which leans camper rather than crawler. It adds a rooftop tent, side awning, auxiliary lighting, and a two-tone finish. Of the four, it's the least modified from the standard car.

Australian availability: The new FJ Cruiser won't be sold in North America or Europe, and there's no confirmed path to market for Australia either. Toyota has confirmed sales in Japan, Thailand, and select emerging markets across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Some right-hand drive examples may eventually filter through as used Japanese domestic market imports, but that's speculative for now.

For buyers watching this space, the base FJ Cruiser itself is the more pressing question - and that answer isn't pointing our way any time soon.
