Key takeaways
- Toyota Australia secures 10,000 extra vehicles, forecast hits 220,000
- RAV4, HiLux and bZ4X all included in the added supply
- Toyota's extra allocation doubles BYD's recent 5,000-vehicle shipment
Toyota Australia has locked in an extra 10,000 vehicles for local buyers in 2026, pushing its full-year sales forecast to 220,000 units. It's a significant move as newer brands, led by BYD, push harder for market share.
The additional supply covers three of Toyota's highest-demand models: the RAV4, Australia's best-selling SUV in 2025; the HiLux, which tops Toyota's own sales charts year-to-date; and the bZ4X, Toyota's first fully electric model sold in Australia.
Toyota is the only brand to have ever sold more than 200,000 vehicles in Australia in a single year.

Toyota's extra supply puts pressure on rivals
The timing is pointed. BYD recently delivered a 5,000-vehicle shipment of hybrid and electric cars to Australia, a number that got attention in the industry. Toyota's added allocation is double that on an annualised basis.
BYD climbed to second place on Australia's monthly sales charts in April with electric vehicles accounting for 16.4% of new car sales that month. The Chinese brand's momentum is real, but Toyota is making clear it isn't standing still.

Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the increase reflected sustained buyer confidence.
"This increase in supply is great news for our customers and dealers. It reflects the strong partnership we have with Toyota globally to prioritise the Australian market," Pappas said.
"Vehicles like HiLux remain essential for many Australians, while RAV4 continues to lead the SUV segment thanks to its versatility, drivability and efficiency."
RAV4 PHEV and bZ4X headline the lineup push
The RAV4 range is also expanding with the RAV4 PHEV due to arrive at Australian dealerships from late June. That adds a plug-in hybrid option to a model line that already dominates its segment.
Toyota hasn't confirmed how the 10,000 extra units will be divided across model lines or grades.
For buyers who've been waiting on stock, more supply across RAV4, HiLux and bZ4X should mean shorter wait times heading into the second half of 2026.
