Key takeaways
- 2026 Toyota GR Yaris lands in Australian showrooms in June
- Smaller 360mm steering wheel and retuned electric power steering
- GTS variant scores race-bred Bridgestone Potenza Race tyres
Toyota will roll out the updated 2026 Toyota GR Yaris in Australian showrooms next month with a handful of mechanical tweaks pulled straight from its rally program. The changes are subtle but focused, targeting how the car talks to its driver.
Pricing is yet to be confirmed though the current GR Yaris range spans $54,990 to $62,990 plus on-road costs. The update is unlikely to shift that bracket significantly.
What's new on the 2026 Toyota GR Yaris

Every variant picks up a redesigned steering wheel. The rim shrinks from 365mm to 360mm and gains a new grip profile shaped to sit more comfortably in the hands mid-corner.
Wheel-mounted switches have been repositioned for clearer reach and now feature ringed illumination, a touch lifted from motorsport interiors. The central Toyota badge has also been dropped from the wheel.
Electric power steering has been retuned with a wider operating range, aimed at giving drivers more feel and consistency when pushing the car.
GTS scores race-bred Bridgestone rubber

The flagship 2026 Toyota GR Yaris GTS is the bigger winner here. Toyota has swapped its previous Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres for Bridgestone Potenza Race rubber, designed to deliver more grip and confidence when leaning on the chassis.
That change marks a clear performance step for the GTS, particularly for buyers planning track days or fast road work.
Australian launch and pricing
Toyota Australia has confirmed a June arrival but is yet to release final pricing or full specifications. The GR Yaris will continue to wear the Toyota badge in Australia, even as Gazoo Racing operates as a standalone brand in Japan.
Toyota Australia Vice President John Pappas linked the changes directly to the brand's motorsport efforts. "When you're racing, improvements are measured in tenths of seconds and these upgrades to the GR Yaris are designed to deliver the sort of performance enhancements that can make a difference," Pappas said.
The update lands less than 18 months after a major GR Yaris facelift which brought more power, a revised interior, lower seating position and the option of an automatic gearbox. An Aero Performance Package for the GTS followed six months ago.
The 2026 Toyota GR Yaris stays focused on what made it a cult favourite, just with sharper tools to do the job.
