Cupra has officially revealed the Raval, a small electric hot hatch confirmed for Australia and expected to arrive in 2027 - though early 2028 is possible given strong European demand. Built on Volkswagen Group's new MEB Entry platform, the Raval targets affordable Chinese EVs like the BYD Dolphin and MG4 while pitching itself as the more driver-focused option.

Cupra Raval specs and performance

The Raval lineup spans three power outputs. Entry grades use an 85kW or 98kW motor paired with a 37kWh LFP battery for roughly 300km of WLTP range. Step up to the Raval Endurance and you get 155kW from a 52kWh NMC battery with around 450km range.

The hero grade is the Raval VZ. It produces 166kW and adds an electronic limited-slip differential, progressive steering, adaptive dampers and 19-inch wheels - hitting 100km/h in 6.9 seconds and claiming 400km range. Stability control can be fully deactivated for track use.

Charging peaks at 90kW DC for the smaller LFP pack (27 minutes, 10-80%) and 130kW for the NMC battery (23 minutes, 10-80%).

Cupra Raval pricing for Australia

European pricing starts at around €26,000 (approximately $43,000 AUD), though local pricing hasn't been confirmed. Cupra Australia brand director Jerome Figuiere confirmed the local lineup will include both an entry model and the VZ grade.

"We know there is a lot of demand for the VZ in Australia," Figuiere said, noting the VZ is consistently the brand's most popular variant locally.

Inside and out

At 4046mm long, the Raval is a genuine small car - compact enough to satisfy urban buyers while still offering a 430-litre boot and genuine rear seat space. The cabin runs a 12.9-inch Android-based infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, with physical shortcut buttons retained on the steering wheel. An optional 475-watt Sennheiser audio system, 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate and full keyless entry round out the kit list.

The Raval also sits 15mm lower than the standard MEB Entry platform and runs a 10mm wider track, with front and rear disc brakes fitted across all variants.

Platform significance

While Cupra developed the MEB Entry architecture, Volkswagen's ID. Polo and ID. Cross plus the Skoda Epiq will all share the same underpinnings. Cupra has retained some hardware exclusively for the Raval, including the lower ride height, wider track and progressive steering.

If you've been waiting for an affordable, driver-focused European EV hatch, the Raval looks like the one to watch.
