Cupra Australia is adding a cheaper entry point to its Tavascan electric SUV lineup, and the new 2026 Cupra Tavascan V undercuts the country's best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y, by $3,410.

Priced from $55,490 plus on-road costs, the Tavascan V becomes Cupra's most affordable EV in Australia. It uses a 140kW rear-mounted motor and a smaller 58kWh LFP battery, claiming 414km of WLTP range and DC fast charging up to 105kW.

Despite sitting at the bottom of the range, the V isn't a stripped-out base model. Cupra has equipped it in line with the outgoing Endurance's optional Interior Package, meaning heated and memory front seats, a 12-speaker Sennheiser sound system, ambient lighting and a 360-degree camera all come standard.

VariantPrice (before on-roads)
Tavascan V$55,490
Tavascan Endurance$66,490
Tavascan VZ$75,490

The Endurance keeps its 210kW motor and 77kWh battery, with WLTP range now rated at 520km. It also gains the former Interior Package as standard, along with launch control. The flagship VZ holds its 250kW dual-motor all-wheel drive setup, offering 509km of range and now includes launch control too.

What's new across the 2026 Cupra Tavascan range

Every Tavascan gets a larger 10.25-inch driver display, replacing the old 5.3-inch unit, and swaps haptic steering wheel controls for physical buttons. Cupra says the button change came directly from customer feedback.

Standard equipment picks up:

  • Speed sign recognition
  • Electrically operated air vents with pre-conditioning
  • Redesigned wireless phone charger housing
  • Software updates to infotainment and audio

Cupra Australia product boss Jeff Shafer said the Tavascan V "opens the range to more customers," with technology and specification changes designed to make every Tavascan "feel even more intuitive and rewarding to live with."

The Tavascan is built on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform and arrives from late August, backed by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty.

Cupra is chasing Tesla's price floor, not just adding a variant

A sub-$56,000 entry point isn't an accident. It's a deliberate move to sit under the Model Y's $58,900 starting price, the single biggest volume driver in the mid-size electric SUV class. With Tavascan sales sitting at just 257 units to the end of May against segment leaders like the Zeekr 7X (3664 units) and Kia EV5 (2379 units), Cupra needs a genuine price-led hook to get cross-shoppers to even consider it, and undercutting Tesla by name is that hook.

The trade-off is the Endurance and VZ grades getting more expensive at the same time, which pushes the price gap between the base V and the rest of the range wider. That's a common tactic: cheapen the entry point to win the headline, then use the wider gap to nudge buyers up into the better-margin mid-spec car once they're in the showroom.

For buyers cross-shopping this segment, the Tavascan V now gives Cupra a genuine price argument against Tesla, but expect that showroom conversation to steer you straight back up to the pricier Endurance.
