The Beep Weekly Roundup: Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, MG4 EV Urban and a massive IONIQ 5 price cut
A quieter week for volume but not for significance. Australia's best-selling SUV segment got a lot more interesting with two highly anticipated new models confirmed and one of the sharpest single-model price cuts seen in the local EV market so far this year.

Two icons arrive and one reinvents itself

Mazda has revealed the third-generation CX-5, one of Australia's most enduring family SUVs, priced from $39,990 before on-roads. The new model grows in size, gains a larger infotainment screen and debuts a new Evolve grade sitting between the entry Pure and the mid-range Touring. All five grades are AWD-only, powered exclusively by a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol producing 132kW and 242Nm with a claimed 7.4L/100km. Australian deliveries are expected from mid-2026.

The timing is notable. Toyota confirmed driveaway pricing and imminent showroom arrival for the all-new RAV4 in the same week. The sixth-generation RAV4 starts from $45,990 before on-roads in hybrid GX 2WD form, with an 11-variant range spanning hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The first-ever RAV4 PHEV arrives later in Q3 2026 from $58,840, topped by a GR Sport AWD priced from $66,340. Two of Australia's most popular SUVs launching in the same week is not a coincidence.
Affordable EVs keep coming

MG has confirmed the MG4 EV Urban from $31,990 driveaway making it one of the most accessible EVs on sale in Australia. Two battery options are available - a 43kWh Standard and a 54kWh Long Range - with 150kW DC fast charging standard across both. Test drives open at dealerships from 1 April with the model also appearing at the Melbourne Motor Show.
Price cuts worth acting on
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Line Premium has dropped by $11,198, an 11%reduction, bringing it to $87,990 driveaway. That is a significant move on a well-equipped performance-flavoured EV and worth serious attention for anyone in the market. The GAC M8 has also edged down by $334.
Offers and special editions

Leapmotor has announced the C10 AWD Sports+ Special Edition arriving in April with a dual-motor setup producing 440kW and 760Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 4.0 seconds from $53,888 before on-roads. The Deepal S07 has a driveaway offer running this week and Mercedes has a "Make the EQA Yours" campaign live.

The RAV4 and CX-5 landing in the same week shapes up as one of the most competitive moments the mid-size SUV segment has seen in years. Buyers in that space have rarely had this much to compare at once.
