Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed the 2026 CLA Shooting Brake will arrive in local showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2026. The compact wagon will launch with 48V mild-hybrid petrol and fully electric powertrains, making it the first electric wagon in the brand's history.

It also ends a five-year drought for Mercedes wagons in Australia.

First Mercedes wagon in Australia since 2021

Local showrooms have not stocked a Mercedes-Benz wagon since the C-Class estate was discontinued in 2021. The Shooting Brake nameplate has been absent for even longer with the first-generation model dropping off the price list in 2019.

"The Shooting Brake will be coming as well to give our customers even more choice within the CLA range," said Adam Calello, Product Manager at Mercedes-Benz Australia.

The new wagon rides on the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, which also underpins the recently launched CLA sedan and the incoming next-generation GLB SUV.

Boot capacity sits at 455 litres with the rear seats up, a modest 50-litre gain over the sedan. Electric variants score an additional 101-litre storage compartment under the bonnet.

Australian specifications have yet to be locked in, but the Shooting Brake is expected to mirror the sedan lineup. Mild-hybrid models pair a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with a 1.3kWh battery and eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The electric variants get rear or all-wheel drive depending on the grade.

Local pricing remains under wraps as well. As a guide, the CLA sedan opens at $66,500 before on-road costs as a mild-hybrid and $72,200 as an EV, with the range topping out at $91,300 for the CLA350 4MATIC electric.

Wagons traditionally command a small premium over their sedan counterparts in this segment, so expect the Shooting Brake to land a few thousand dollars above each equivalent CLA sedan grade.

A plug-in hybrid CLA is also tipped for Australia in the future, although the brand has not confirmed whether it will appear in sedan or wagon form.

Buyers wanting a wagon now have a confirmed local arrival to wait for.
