BMW has confirmed an entry-level variant for its new Neue Klasse electric SUV with the 2026 BMW iX3 40 priced from $89,900 before on-road costs and due in Australian showrooms during Q4 2026.
It sits $20,000 below the iX3 50 xDrive and comes in under the Luxury Car Tax threshold for fuel-efficient vehicles.
2026 BMW iX3 40 pricing
| Variant | Drivetrain | Price (before on-roads) |
| BMW iX3 40 | Rear-wheel drive | $89,900 |
| BMW iX3 50 xDrive | All-wheel drive | $109,900 |
That LCT-free status also makes the iX3 40 eligible for FBT exemptions under a novated lease arrangement, a meaningful advantage for business buyers.
Range, performance and charging

Where the iX3 50 xDrive uses a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup and a 108.7kWh battery, the iX3 40 runs a single rear-mounted motor producing 235kW and 500Nm. That's enough for a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds and a 200km/h top speed, fed by an 82.6kWh usable battery.
BMW claims up to 635km of WLTP range. DC fast charging tops out at 300kW and takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes. A 10-minute top-up can add up to 300km of range under optimal conditions.
Standard AC charging runs at 11kW, with 22kW AC charging (included in Australian specification) cutting the full charge time to around four hours and 15 minutes.

What you get inside the 2026 BMW iX3 40
Standard equipment matches the iX3 50 xDrive, which means buyers aren't missing out simply by choosing the cheaper variant. That includes BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X, a panoramic sunroof, 20-inch wheels, Harman Kardon audio, Parking Assistant Plus, Driving Assistant Plus, heated front seats with memory and wireless charging.
The M Sport Package Pro is available at an additional cost, adding red brake calipers, M seatbelts and a glass kidney grille in M Shadowline. Optional 21-inch and 22-inch wheel upgrades are also on offer.
From July production, buyers can also access BMW Individual paint colours including Frozen Ocean Wave Blue ($6,000) and a range of options at $7,600 such as Twilight Purple, Malachite Green Dark and Tansanite Blue II.
For buyers who want a premium electric SUV without crossing into LCT territory, the iX3 40 closes that gap with very little compromise.
