Key takeaways
- BMW M3 turns 40 with 10,000th Australian delivery milestone in 2026
- Win a BMW M Snow and Ice Experience at New Zealand's Southern Hemisphere Proving Ground
- Competition opens 17 June and closes 30 June 2026
Two milestones collide in 2026. BMW M's iconic M3 sports sedan turns 40 this year, and BMW Australia is about to hand over the keys to its 10,000th local example. To mark both occasions, BMW has launched a game of skill with an experience most drivers will never get the chance to repeat.
How to win the BMW M Snow and Ice Experience

The prize is a fully hosted trip to the BMW M Snow and Ice Experience, held at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Ground near Queenstown and Wanaka on New Zealand's South Island. Return airfares, two nights' accommodation and helicopter transfers to the proving ground are all included (subject to weather conditions).
On arrival, participants drive a fleet of current BMW M road cars through motorkhana, drag sprint, barrel race and drifting activities, finishing with a high-speed passenger lap alongside a globally certified BMW M instructor in a BMW M3.
Entering isn't as simple as clicking a button. BMW is asking entrants to predict the exact specification of Australia's 10,000th BMW M3, using the BMW online configurator to select what they believe will be the milestone car's model variant and exterior colour, including any BMW Individual paint options. Entrants must also correctly predict the Australian state where the car will be delivered and the delivery date.
The winner is the person who gets closest across all four criteria.
BMW M3 Australia: 40 years of an icon

Four decades is a long run for any performance car, and the M3 has earned its reputation across six generations. BMW's M Driving Experience programme, which forms the backbone of this prize, has been running since 1976 and was a world first among car manufacturers at the time.
For the uninitiated, three M3 variants are currently on sale in Australia: the M3 sedan, the M3 Competition xDrive sedan and the M3 Competition xDrive Touring. All three are eligible guesses for the competition.
The competition opened on 17 June 2026 and closes on 30 June 2026. Full terms and conditions are available at bmw.com.au.
If you've ever wanted a legitimate reason to sit down with the BMW configurator for an hour, this is it.
