Key takeaways

  • Jaguar Type 01 is the production name for the Type 00 concept
  • Tri-motor electric GT makes over 735kW and 1,300Nm
  • Full reveal due later in 2026, no Australian pricing yet

Jaguar has confirmed the name of its reinvented electric flagship and it is the Type 01. The production car, previously shown as the Type 00 concept in December 2024, is a luxury four-door GT that marks the brand's full shift to electric power.

The name links back to Jaguar greats like the C-Type, D-Type, E-Type and F-Type, even as the company tells buyers to forget what came before. Jaguar says the "0" stands for electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the "1" signals the first car of a new era. The badge itself will appear as a small motif where the bonnet meets the windscreen.

Jaguar Type 01 specs and performance

The Type 01 runs a tri-motor all-wheel drive setup, with one motor on the front axle and two at the rear. Total output sits above 735kW (more than 1,000hp) with 1,300Nm of torque, putting it in genuine super-sedan territory.

It uses an 850V architecture and a 120kWh battery, with charging at up to 350kW and a target of more than 690km of range. Four-wheel steering is also confirmed. One of the more unusual details: the car will not have a rear window.

What it means for Jaguar

Jaguar Type 01 electric GT prototype in camouflage

The Type 01 sits on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture, a platform that cannot take combustion power at all. It is electric or nothing. The design follows a philosophy Jaguar calls Exuberant Modernism, with a long bonnet and a rakish roofline that will divide opinion.

Managing director Rawdon Glover said the brand had reimagined Jaguar for a new era, describing the car as one that "looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance."

Camouflaged prototypes will appear at the Monaco E-Prix on 16 and 17 May, with the finished car set to be revealed later this year.

Jaguar has bet everything on this car and the Type 01 is the first real proof of whether the gamble pays off.
