Key takeaways

  • Four variants from $45,990 driveaway, all with all-wheel drive standard
  • The PHEV makes 320kW and claims 137km of electric-only range
  • A locking rear diff and full-size tailgate spare come on every H7

GWM has launched the new-generation Haval H7 in Australia, with hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions in dealerships now. Every variant gets all-wheel drive and a locking rear differential, and the range opens at $45,990 driveaway under a launch offer.

It replaces the front-drive, hybrid-only H7 that went on sale just over a year ago. The rounded styling is gone too, replaced by an upright, boxy body with a full-size spare mounted on the tailgate.

The $1,000 launch discount applies to Lux grades until 30 November 2026. Hamilton White is the only no-cost paint, with other colours adding $595.

That pricing puts the H7 right beside the Haval H6 Ultra. The Lux Hybrid comes in $500 under the $47,490 H6 Ultra Hybrid AWD, while the Lux PHEV matches the H6 Ultra PHEV AWD at $50,990.

Hybrid and PHEV specifications

Both powertrains pair a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with front and rear electric motors and a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.

SpecificationsHybridPHEV
Combined power / torque182kW / 670Nm320kW / 670Nm
0-100km/h7.0 seconds4.9 seconds
Fuel use (WLTP)7.0L/100km0.9L/100km
Electric range (WLTP)-137km

DC charging (30-80%)-19 minutes

All fuel figures are rated on the WLTP cycle, the tougher test that now applies to newly introduced models in Australia, so the hybrid’s 7.0L/100km isn’t directly comparable with older ratings. The PHEV claims a combined driving range of 844km and offers vehicle-to-load output of up to 6kW.

New GWM Haval H7 medium SUV interior

The H7 still uses car-style monocoque construction rather than the ladder frame of the Tank 300, but it’s set up for more than gravel driveways. It gets eight drive modes including Sand, Mud, Snow and Towing, 580mm wading depth and a 25-degree approach angle. In a medium SUV class led by the Toyota RAV4, a locking rear diff and tailgate spare are rare.

At 4,800mm long, the H7 offers 586L of boot space with the rear seats up and 1,404L folded, well up on the outgoing model’s 483L.
