ANCAP Safety has handed five-star ratings to the BYD Seal 6, MG4 EV Urban and Tesla Model Y L in its latest round of crash testing. The Skoda Octavia also kept its five-star rating following a reassessment of vehicles built from July 2025. All four were assessed against ANCAP's 2023-2025 criteria.
BYD Seal 6 scores top adult occupant result

BYD Seal 6
The large plug-in hybrid, available in Australia as a sedan and wagon, scored 92% for Adult Occupant Protection. That was the highest result in this round of testing.
It also earned 90% for Child Occupant Protection, 84% for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 84% for Safety Assist. Crash testing showed good protection across nearly all critical body regions for both driver and passengers.
Tesla Model Y L impresses on safety assist
The new six-seat, three-row Tesla Model Y L scored 92% for Safety Assist, the strongest result of the group on that pillar. Adult Occupant Protection landed at 91%. ANCAP based the rating on testing of the related five-seat Model Y, with extra assessments to confirm the results carried across to the longer-wheelbase variant.
Family buyers should note one caveat. ANCAP found that many child restraints could not be correctly installed in the second row due to top tether routing limitations. In the third row, convertible child restraints could not be easily installed using the ISOFix anchorages.
MG4 EV Urban earns five stars across the board

MG4 EV Urban
On sale in Australia from March 2026, the MG4 EV Urban earned 87% for Adult Occupant Protection and 86% for Child Occupant Protection. It also scored 85% for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 82% for Safety Assist. Its autonomous emergency braking performed well in forward pedestrian and cyclist scenarios.
The rating applies across the entire MG4 EV Urban range.
