The 2027 BMW 7 Series has been revealed and BMW is calling it the most significant update in its 110-year history. The G70-generation large sedan receives a comprehensive mid-cycle refresh that goes well beyond skin-deep, with a redesigned interior, updated powertrains, and new Neue Klasse technology lifted directly from the iX3 and i3.

Australian deliveries are confirmed for the fourth quarter of 2026, though BMW Australia has not yet locked in pricing or confirmed which variants will reach local buyers. Currently the BMW 7 Series starts from around $270,000 plus on-roads with the i7 flagship from approximately $300,000.

2027 BMW 7 Series interior and technology

The biggest changes are inside. BMW has fitted the Panoramic iDrive system, a full-width projection display that spans the base of the windscreen, alongside a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a 3D head-up display. A dedicated passenger screen is standard for the first time on any BMW.

The optional rear Theatre Screen grows to 31.3 inches at 8K resolution and now includes a built-in camera and microphone for video calls. Audio is handled by a 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system with Dolby Atmos capability.

New Level 2 driver assistance allows hands-free highway driving up to 130km/h and a new City Assistant feature uses AI mapping to assist in urban traffic.

Outside, the front end adopts a more upright kidney grille with crystalline headlight elements and a revised bumper for what BMW describes as a more "monolithic" road presence. New tail lights extend towards the centre of the bootlid, and 22-inch wheels are available for the first time from the factory.

The i7 switches to a new 112.5kWh battery using sixth-generation cylindrical cells developed with Rimac, adding around 83km of WLTP range over the outgoing model. Peak DC charging rises from 200kW to 250kW with a 10-80% top-up taking approximately 29 minutes.

That still trails the facelifted Mercedes-Benz EQS which claims 926km of range and 350kW peak charging. The Genesis Electrified G80 remains a softer rival at a lower price point.

On the combustion side a new 740 replaces the 740i with a mild hybrid 3.0-litre straight-six producing 294kW, returning 7.7L/100km. Plug-in hybrid variants are slated for later but remain unconfirmed for Australia.

2027 BMW 7 Series pricing and availability

BMW Australia has not announced Australian pricing or a full variant lineup. Expect confirmation closer to the Q4 2026 on-sale date. In the United States the range opens from USD$101,350 for the base 740.

With the Audi A8 now discontinued, the 7 Series faces the S-Class as its primary non-SUV rival. On the strength of this update, BMW is clearly not conceding that fight.
