MG Motor Australia has put local buyers first in the queue for the 2026 MG U9 Black Edition, making the country the first market in the world to get it. The limited-run dual-cab is on sale now from $57,990 drive away, landing in the MG U9 range with darkened styling and a mix of upgrades pulled from across the lineup.

What the 2026 MG U9 Black Edition adds
The Black Edition is built on the Explore X, which sits $2,000 cheaper at $55,990 drive away. From there it gains a blacked-out grille, badges, wheel caps, window surrounds and roof rails for a tougher street presence.

New 18-inch black alloy wheels replace the Explore X's 19s, now wrapped in Kumho all-terrain tyres for buyers who head off the bitumen. The tri-fold electric tailgate carries a unique stamped design and a fold-down step for easier access to the tub. A front locking differential, borrowed from the flagship Explore Pro, also makes the cut.
Inside the 2026 MG U9 Black Edition

The cabin switches to a darker theme with a black headliner, black pillars and synthetic leather trim. MG says the change came straight from owner feedback, with rugged users wanting a finish that hides dirt better than the lighter trim.
Standard kit includes dual 12.3-inch screens, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 360-degree camera. The rear bench also picks up a 60:40 split-fold backrest.
Towing, engine and capability
This is the first MG sold in Australia to offer Towing Cruise Control, which adjusts throttle, gearshifts and stability control to suit towing while cruise is engaged. It pairs with a 3.5-tonne braked tow rating.
Power comes from the same 2.5-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder as the rest of the range, sending 160kW and 520Nm to all four wheels through a ZF eight-speed automatic. Every U9 runs multi-link independent rear suspension and a locking rear differential as standard.
MG Motor Australia marketing director Dimitri Andreatidis said the variant answers clear demand. "Since launching the MGU9, we've seen strong interest from Australians looking for a ute with a more distinctive look and premium feel," he said. "The Black Edition was developed in response to that demand, bringing together the capability customers expect with exclusive styling that gives the vehicle even greater presence on the road."
