The headline upgrade is the new battery pack, which pushes electric range well beyond the outgoing model. Chassis updates include recalibrated shock absorbers, a smaller front anti-roll bar and revised electric power steering mapping, all tuned on Australian roads. New Bridgestone tyres and a steel bonnet and front guards also help reduce cabin noise.

Inside, the centre console has been redesigned with repositioned cupholders and 45 per cent more under-armrest storage. All variants now get a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera and Mitsubishi's Connected Car Service.

The seven-seat option is now exclusive to the mid-range Aspire. The Exceed gains ventilated front seats and a digital rear-view mirror, while the Exceed Tourer adds a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system and massaging front seats.

Key rivals include the Skoda Kodiaq PHEV from $63,490 and the Kia Sorento PHEV from $71,130, while Chinese alternatives like the Chery Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid undercut the range significantly from $45,990 drive-away.

All Outlander PHEVs are covered by Mitsubishi's 10-year warranty, with 10 years of capped-price servicing and roadside assistance, conditional on dealer servicing.

Buyers get more range and more kit, but they'll pay for it.
