Mitsubishi Triton Raider teased as rally-inspired flagship ute for 2026
The new Triton Raider has been developed in Australia and tested in the Flinders Ranges, positioning it as the brand's most off-road-capable ute yet.

Mitsubishi has teased a new flagship Triton variant called the Raider, confirming it will arrive in Australian showrooms this year. The teaser is light on detail, but Mitsubishi says the ute was developed with "Australian engineering ingenuity" and completed final testing in South Australia's Arkaroola region.
The single shadowy image released shows a vehicle that closely resembles the existing Triton GSR, with what appears to be a revised front bumper and a black sports bar similar to the GLX-R's. Beyond that, specifics are thin.
Mitsubishi hasn't confirmed mechanical changes, but expect retuned suspension, underbody protection upgrades, and all-terrain tyres. The existing 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel, which produces 150kW and 470Nm, is unlikely to be touched.

The Raider name has history. Mitsubishi trademarked it locally back in 2022, and it was originally expected to land on a special edition of the outgoing Triton. That slot ended up going to the Walkinshaw-developed Xtreme instead. Whether Walkinshaw or another engineering partner is involved this time around is unknown. Worth watching: the Nissan Navara, which shares its platform and drivetrain with the Triton, is getting a Premcar-developed Warrior variant, though any link between the two projects hasn't been confirmed.
How much the Raider actually differs from a standard Triton GSR will determine where it sits in the market. Australian ute buyers can choose between cosmetic-only flagships like the Mazda BT-50 Thunder and fully re-engineered variants like the Ford Ranger Raptor. The Raider's real-world positioning is still unclear.
Pricing and a full reveal are expected later in 2026. Buyers chasing a genuine off-road flagship should wait for the full details before getting too excited.
