Mercedes-Benz has launched the Maybach SL 680 in Australia, bringing the ultra-luxury Maybach brand to the SL roadster for the first time. It's on sale now, priced from $463,900 before on-road costs, with drive-away pricing expected to push past the $500,000 mark.

Power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 430kW and 800Nm, sent to all four wheels via 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic. The 0-100km/h sprint takes 4.1 seconds, half a second behind the mechanically similar AMG SL63.

The SL 680 isn't chasing lap times, though. Chassis tuning prioritises ride comfort, supported by Active Ride Control suspension, rear-axle steering with up to 2.5 degrees of angle, dynamic engine mounts, and an electronically controlled rear locking differential. There's also a front-axle lift system for steep driveways.

Visually, it's unmistakably Maybach. A dedicated grille with illuminated vertical slats, an Obsidian Black bonnet with chrome divider, and 21-inch forged alloys separate it from the standard SL range. Chrome runs along the side sills and windscreen surround, and the soft top carries a subtle Maybach pattern.

Standard paint options are Garnet Red and Opalite White MAGNO, but buyers can access more than 50 MANUFAKTUR finishes. A PixelPaint Maybach-patterned bonnet is also available, where the design is printed, double clear-coated, and hand-sanded for a deep, layered finish.

Inside, Nappa leather, a DINAMICA microfibre roof liner, and floral-embossed sports seats with heating, ventilation, and massage set the tone. A 17-speaker, 1220-watt Burmester sound system and an 11.9-inch MBUX display with augmented reality navigation handle entertainment and connectivity.

Key options include the Maybach bonnet pattern ($16,900), MANUFAKTUR exclusive paint ($24,300), and multi-spoke 21-inch wheels ($12,900).

At $463,900 plus on-roads, it sits $80,200 above the AMG SL63. Buyers who tick every box will be looking at well over $500,000 all up.
