- More than 200mm of ground clearance and up to 700mm wading depth
- Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions confirmed, with two- or four-wheel drive
Chery has revealed the Tiggo X7 in China. It is a rugged five-seat SUV based on the Tiggo 7 and the first of a new range of X-badged models. It has more than 200mm of ground clearance and can wade through up to 700mm of water, but the Chinese brand has not confirmed it for Australia.
The X7 made its debut at Chery’s global user summit in Wuhu, alongside an updated version of the regular Tiggo 7, which stays focused on everyday comfort. Chery says more details will follow.
Squared-off styling and all-terrain tyres set the X7 apart from the standard car. It gets multiple drive modes, reportedly including sand, mud, snow and rock settings. Crawl control holds a steady low speed on steep or slippery tracks while the driver steers.
A 540-degree camera system adds a view beneath the car to the usual 360-degree surround view. That helps drivers place the wheels around rocks and ruts.
Under the skin it is still a unibody SUV, not a body-on-frame off-roader like the GWM Tank 300. Chery also hasn’t said whether four-wheel-drive versions get low-range gearing. On what’s known so far, the X7 suits gravel roads, beach tracks and campsites better than serious 4WD trails.
Inside, Chery’s six-dimensional comfort system manages cabin temperature, humidity, air quality, cleanliness, noise and personalised settings. The second-row seats fold with one touch to clear space for luggage and camping gear.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid power
Chery’s French arm has confirmed hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, with a choice of two or four-wheel drive. Chery hasn’t released full outputs yet. The only figures so far are 115kW and 220Nm for the petrol engine.
The Australian Tiggo 7 offers two powertrains. The first is a 108kW/210Nm 1.5-litre turbo petrol with a six-speed automatic. The second is Chery’s Super Hybrid plug-in system, which pairs the 1.5-litre engine with an 18.3kWh battery for a claimed 93km of electric range on the NEDC test cycle.
Is the Chery Tiggo X7 coming to Australia?
Not yet. Chery Australia says the X7 is one of several international models under consideration. Local timing, pricing and specifications have not been confirmed.
Chery has confirmed the X7 will be built in right-hand drive.
If it does come to Australia, the X7 would join a growing group of boxy mid-size SUVs. That group includes GWM’s new-generation Haval H7, which also offers a plug-in hybrid and is due here before the end of 2026.
Chery says it will release more X7 details later. Australian buyers should watch for confirmed powertrains, the four-wheel-drive hardware and whether Chery Australia commits to a local launch.
