Polestar has revealed the 2027 Polestar 4 SUV, a wagon-shaped version of its mid-size electric SUV that puts back the rear window the coupé famously deleted.

Australian orders are open now with first customer deliveries locked in for the fourth quarter of 2026.

On paper the SUV lists $4,600 under the Polestar 4 coupé, which asks $78,500 and $86,350.

In practice, that gap disappears at the checkout. Polestar's configurator currently returns the same driveaway figure for both bodies, so buyers get the extra space, the rear glass and the longer range without paying more.

Matching the driveaway prices suggests Polestar is nervous about the SUV cannibalising the coupé. It almost certainly won't be enough. Expect the SUV to become the dominant variant in the Polestar 4 range within two quarters of launch.

Option packs climb quickly on both. The Plus pack costs $6,500, the Comfort pack $1,200 and a $7,200 Performance pack is restricted to Dual Motor cars already fitted with Plus.

Standalone items include an electrochromic glass roof at $2,200, 22kW AC charging at $900, a digital rear-view mirror at $1,000 and an electric retractable towbar at $4,070.

More space without a bigger footprint

Polestar says just 48 new parts separate the SUV from the coupé. The changes are a straighter roofline, an upright tailgate, conventional rear glass and full-length roof rails rated to a 100kg dynamic load.

Length stays at 4840mm and the wheelbase at 2999mm. The car sits 22mm taller and that is down to the rails alone.

Boot space runs to 530L behind the rear seats, 655L measured to the inner roof, and 1665L with the 60:40 backrests folded. Second-row headroom grows by 2.5cm, and a full-length panoramic glass roof is standard.

Both variants gain 10km of claimed range over the coupé. Vehicle-to-load supplies up to 3.3kW through a certified adapter, and a new Camping mode keeps the climate control, screens and lighting running while parked. Both arrive via an over-the-air update after launch.
