The GLB200 lands $2,900 below the outgoing entry grade. The GLB220 4Matic takes over from the GLB250 and asks $10,728 less than that car did, despite adding the AMG Line package as standard. The dual-motor GLB350 4Matic electric is new to the lineup.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB specifications

Both electric grades run an 800-volt architecture with DC fast charging at up to 320kW and AC charging at up to 22kW. Mercedes-Benz claims up to 260km of range in a 10-minute stop on a compatible charger.

A new 1.5-litre turbo four with 48-volt assistance replaces the old 1.3-litre and 2.0-litre engines, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Unusually for a mild hybrid, it can run on electric power alone at low speeds where 22kW or less is needed.

The GLB shares its MMA platform with the CLA, with the new GLA due here next year.

Space, seats and standard equipment

At 4732mm long on a 2889mm wheelbase, the new GLB gains 60mm between the axles. Headroom is up 35mm in the front, 64mm in the second row and 10mm in the third. The second-row bench now slides.

Nothing else with three rows and a battery comes close: the Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Volvo EX90 all start north of $95,000, which leaves Mercedes-Benz with a segment of one for at least the next 12 months.

Boot space is 480 litres behind the second row and 1605 litres with the rear seats folded. Electric variants add a 127-litre front boot.
