The 740 runs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six mated to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and eight-speed automatic. The i7's range improvement comes courtesy of new-generation cylindrical battery cells with capacity up from 101.7kWh to 112.5kWh. Front and rear motors produce 190kW and 230kW respectively, combining for a substantial 400kW. Peak DC charging sits at 250kW.
New interior and Neue Klasse design
Both variants receive the brand's updated Neue Klasse design language inside and out. Up front, enlarged illuminated kidney grilles and reshaped crystal LED headlights give the sedan a sharper face, while revised tail-lights and optional two-tone paint (from $16,500) complete the exterior refresh.

Inside is where the biggest changes land. A full-width Panoramic Vision projection replaces the traditional instrument cluster, paired with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and a dedicated front passenger display. Standard rear entertainment comes via a 31-inch Theatre Screen capable of 8K streaming and gaming, plus a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos as standard across both variants.
Power-operated flush-handle doors, a redesigned four-spoke steering wheel, adaptive air suspension with rear-wheel steering, and a 3D head-up display also come standard.

The optional $12,900 First Edition Package adds Merino leather or wool-cashmere upholstery, 21-inch BMW Individual alloy wheels and two-tone paintwork. On the i7, it's included at no extra cost.
With a 727km electric range and a full interior overhaul at a held price point, the i7 60 xDrive is the strongest case yet for going electric at the top end of the market.
