Nissan has expanded the 2026 Nissan X-TRAIL range with three front-wheel-drive e-POWER hybrid variants and a new adventure-focused Rock Creek grade. The additions stretch the medium SUV further at both the value and rugged ends of the market. Orders open now across Australia, with first customer arrivals expected in September 2026.

e-POWER hybrid opens up to front-wheel drive

Until now, the X-TRAIL's e-POWER hybrid came only with all-wheel drive across three grades. Nissan has doubled that to six by adding front-wheel-drive versions of the ST-L, Ti and Ti-L.

e-POWER works differently to most hybrids. The wheels are driven only by an electric motor, and the petrol engine runs purely to generate electricity.

Dropping the rear drive helps at the pump, with a fuel-use improvement of around 11.5% over the all-wheel-drive versions. Price is the bigger draw, though. The front-wheel-drive models sit $3,090 and $3,655 below their all-wheel-drive equivalents, starting at $45,990 for the ST-L.

"Hybrid has become the powertrain of choice in the medium SUV segment, and a two-wheel-drive e-POWER X-TRAIL puts us exactly where the strongest demand is," said Steve Milette, Managing Director, Nissan Oceania.

Rock Creek brings the rugged look

The other headline is the X-TRAIL Rock Creek, a grade built for buyers who want their family SUV to look weekend-ready. It comes only as a seven-seat, all-wheel-drive petrol model, based on the ST-L 4WD.

Outside, it gets a black V-motion grille, black roof rails, gloss-black mirrors, a unique lower front bumper and exclusive 18-inch alloys. Orange accents lift the badges and wheels, and a three-slot horizontal grille nods to the old Nissan D21 ute. A new Baja Storm paint with a black roof tops the palette.

Inside, ballistic nylon seats carry embroidered Rock Creek badging, with orange contrast stitching across the seats and dash and an orange Nissan badge on the wheel. Rock Creek also steps up the tech over the ST-L with a 10.8-inch head-up display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

At $48,315, it lands $2,435 above the ST-L 4WD it is based on.

Every MY26 X-TRAIL is covered by Nissan's 10-year/300,000km MORE warranty when serviced at authorised dealers, along with $399 flat-price servicing for the first five years.

Nissan is aiming e-POWER straight at the RAV4 Hybrid

Pricing front-wheel-drive e-POWER from $45,990, and $2,925 to $3,500 under the AWD versions, points the X-TRAIL squarely at the volume 2WD hybrid buyer who currently defaults to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Nissan's own line that around half of hybrid buyers choose two-wheel drive tells you where it expects the mix to sit.

Expect the cheaper front-driver to outsell the AWD e-POWER locally within its first full quarter, leaving all-wheel-drive e-POWER as the niche pick rather than the default.

For plenty of buyers, the front-wheel-drive version will be all the hybrid X-TRAIL they need.
