MG has confirmed Australian pricing for the U9 EV at $78,990 plus on-road costs and Australia will be the first market globally to sell the electric ute. Deliveries start from the fourth quarter of 2026.

The dual-cab uses a 102.2kWh LFP battery and two electric motors for 325kW and 700Nm, driving all four wheels through full-function four-wheel electronic air suspension.

WLTP range is 430km and MG claims 0-100km/h in 5.8 seconds, quicker than any diesel ute in the class.

Towing is the number most ute buyers will check first. Braked capacity is 3500kg, matching the diesel MG U9 and most of the segment, with 750kg unbraked. Payload is 685kg, which is modest for a one-tonne-style ute and reflects the weight of the battery pack.

Practicality extends to a 236-litre frunk and a tub that takes a standard pallet. Vehicle-to-load supplies up to 6.6kW through the external CCS2 outlet and 2.2kW from each of three cabin outlets, enough to run power tools or camping gear away from mains electricity. AC charging peaks at 11kW, while DC charging runs to 115kW for a 20% to 80% top-up in about 42 minutes.

The diesel U9 uses a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel making 160kW and 520Nm with an eight-speed automatic, and it tows the same 3500kg. On a like-for-like driveaway basis the EV will sit well above $30,000 clear of the entry diesel.

MG says battery electric vehicles accounted for almost one in four new vehicle sales in August 2026.

Electrified rivals in the ute segment are mostly plug-in hybrids, including the BYD Shark 6 and the Ford Ranger PHEV, which leaves the U9 EV with few direct full-electric competitors at launch.

Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia, Dimitri Andreatidis, said the U9 EV gives buyers another option without a trade-off in capability. "A full-electric ute offers another choice and, importantly, allows Australians to make the move to electric without giving up the versatility they value in a ute."

The U9 EV is covered by MG's seven-year warranty when serviced within the MG dealer network, which now spans more than 110 dealers nationally.
